仙台メディアテークは、建築家伊東豊雄の設計ですが、構造体の特殊性が注目されています。この写真はその構造体を中から覗いたものです。
「メディアテーク (médiathèque)」とはフランス語で「メディアを収める棚」を意味している。smtでは、書籍に加えてビデオやDVD、CDやCD-ROMなどの映像や音楽をはじめとする多様な表現媒体を収集・保管している。それを、来館者へ直接提供する図書館・映画館機能の他、ウェブページでの提供や、視聴覚障害者に対するバリアフリー事業なども行い、市民の文化受容に供している。（参照：せんだいメディアテーク - Wikipedia）
