「この寺は天台宗金剛山照明院常楽寺といい北向観音の本坊で、本尊は妙観察智阿弥陀如来、開山は慈覚大使と伝えられている。京都南禅寺の開祖大明国司が正応５年（１９９２）に信濃の国塩田別所常楽寺で十不二門文心解を書写した文献があり古くから学問寺として名高く創建当時より名僧高僧がここに錫をとどめている。いまの本堂は江戸中期の享保年間（１７１６〜３６）に建立されたもので別所三楽寺（常楽、安楽、長楽（消失））の一寺として多くの信仰をあつめている。」
This temple is closely related to the Kitamuki Kannon. Its founder is said to have been the great teacher Jikaku. It hosts sacred texts hand-copied by the founder of Kyoto's Nanzenji Temple in 1292, and has long been famous for being a temple of academic study. The current main structure was built in the middle Edo period(1716 - 1736), and has gathered many adherents of different sects.
